Leonardo Colafelice

Eighteen-year-old Italian pianist Leonardo Colafelice is taking the piano competition world by storm, having recently placed in the top tier of competitors at the Arthur Rubinstein Piano Competition in June, where he also received the award for Best Performer of a Classical Concerto and Best Performer of a piece by Chopin.

In 2013 he won 1st Prize in three international competitions: the Yamaha USASU International Piano Competition in Arizona (where he received the prize from the legendary Argentinian pianist Martha Argerich), the Aarhus Competition in Denmark (where he performed the 1st Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra) and the Hilton Head Competition (where he performed the Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra).

Between June and July 2012, he was named the gold medalist of the Gina Bachauer Young Artists International Piano Competition in Salt Lake City and subsequently the first-prize winner of the Thomas and Evon Cooper International Competition (Oberlin College and Cleveland Orchestra) and gold medalist of the Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition at the Eastman School of Music.

Since 2010 Colafelice has won first-prize in more than 60 international piano competitions, including the Young Pianist of the North International Piano Competition in Newcastle, U.K., International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Young Artists in Poland, Concours Musical de France in Paris, and the International Tournament of Music and Premio Cittą di Padova in Italy.

Colafelice regularly performs as a soloist in Italy and has performed Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 3 with Jahja Ling and The Cleveland Orchestra and with Arild Remmereit and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
